PURPOSE
The mission is to teach every child in Richmond to swim by the time they graduate from Third Grade.
VISION
In Summer, 2014, the Shield-Reid and Nevin Community Center's Summer Programs had the added enhancement of weekly trips to the Richmond Municipal Natatorium ("The Plunge") for introduction to safety and fun in the water. This was a very popular activity. Richmond Friends of Recreation provided the bus fare and admission costs for nearly 100 grade-schoolers. Assessments were professionally done at the end of the program to evaluate the youngsters elementary water skills.
This Summer, 2015, this program will continue with the additional effort to enroll students in swim lesson programs in the Fall at "The Plunge".
